Arm Lift Surgery (Brachioplasty) in Merseyside & Cheshire

Reasons for arm lift surgery

You may have been left with lose and saggy skin to the arms due to weight loss or the ageing process. Often diet and a healthy lifestyle incorporating exercise may not be enough to address the skin laxity causing “bingo wings” resulting in excess skin hanging down when the arms are held out. This can be embarrassing and may affect levels of self-confidence, causing desired clothing to be avoided and long sleeved tops to be worn throughout the year, in order to conceal the arms.

The arm lift operation

Liverpool Cosmetic Clinic performs the Armlift operation (Brachioplasty),which involves the removal of excess and loose skin from the arms using incisions, which are sometimes made from the armpit down to the elbow. The excess skin is separated from the muscle and fat, before being stretched and stitched back together, aiming to produce slimmer, smoother upper arms resulting in a more youthful appearance. It is important to understand that there will be significant scarring from the Armlift procedure and some liposuction may be performed, to obtain a more desirable surgical outcome. Many patients who opt to undergo arm reduction surgery feel that the visible scarring which is left, outweighs the embarrassment of the loose and flabby skin prior to having the procedure.

The arms will feel swollen and tight for approximately 2-3 weeks, and the length of the scars will vary depending on the amount of skin which has been removed. You will be advised to rest for 2-4 weeks and avoid strenuous exercise for approximately 6 weeks after surgery.

Arm Lift FAQ

Will I have scars following arm lift surgery?

Following Brachioplasty surgery you can expect some visible scarring which will be minimised by keeping the incision lines within natural contours on the underside of the arms. These will be visible when wearing short-sleeved clothing, which will ease with time over approximately 12 months. The extent of the scarring will depend on factors such as your age, skin type, and lifestyle following surgery.

How will I feel following the arm reduction operation?

Initially you will not be able to fully use your arms or lift anything for a few days, therefore it is advisable to wear loose or sleeveless tops during the healing process. You will need help at home, as stretching your arms will be painful and may damage your stitches

When can I drive after brachioplasty surgery?

Your surgeon will normally recommend resuming driving a minimum of 2 weeks following arm lift surgery, to allow sufficient recovery time and for insurance purposes.

How long after reduction surgery should I exercise?

You are advised to not to commence strenuous upper body exercise until 6 weeks following your arm operation, including lifting, swimming or vacuuming.

Further benefits, risks and your expectations will be discussed and explained during your consultation with a fully registered Consultant Plastic Surgeon.

Client Testimonies

Male Breast Reduction

I went to see Mr Akhtar after years of self-confidence regarding my chest area (gynecomastia). I wanted Mr Akhtar as he had done procedure to a family member of mine in the past and the results from that was amazing. Mr Akhtar made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked into the room for my first consultation.
