What Does Breast Uplift Surgery Involve?

Mastopexy surgery is an operation which involves the removal of any extra skin around the breast area. The aim of the procedure is to give the breasts a more youthful look and a firmer feel. Breast uplift surgery provides patients with a way to reshape their breasts to achieve a more desirable appearance. A breast uplift does not increase breast size, unless a breast implant is inserted, however they may feel more voluminous and firmer.

Will I have scars following Mastopexy uplift breast surgery?

Following a breast lift operation, some minimal scarring expected and which will be permanent.  Any scars will appear red at initially, however over approximately 12 months they should fade to a lighter pink colour over time.  During the Mastopexy procedure, the Plastic Surgeon will try to ensure that scarring is minimal, however your particular skin type, age and lifestyle following surgery will depend on the outcome of the scarring.

How does becoming pregnant affect my uplift operation?

Pregnancy can affect the breasts following Mastopexy uplift surgery, if substantial weight is gained during pregnancy.  The skin on the breasts may stretch, resulting in sagging of the breasts after pregnancy.  Most patients are still able to breastfeed following Mastopexy surgery.

Does Mastopexy surgery cause loss of breast sensitivity?

There is a risk of loss of sensitivity following uplift surgery, which can differ from one patient to another. Some temporary nerve changes to breast sensation is to be expected, particularly around the nipple area, however this may sometimes be permanent.

When can I drive following uplift surgery?

The Cosmetic Surgeon will normally recommend refraining from driving for a minimum of two weeks following your surgery, to allow sufficient time to rest and recovery.

How long after Mastopexy surgery should I exercise?

You will normally be advised to not to commence strenuous exercise until at least six weeks following your breast uplift operation, which includes swimming, lifting, bending, stooping, or vacuuming.
