Breast Uplift Surgery (Mastopexy)Published on 15th July 2013

Who is suitable for Mastopexy?

The aim of breast uplift surgery is to achieve a more youthful and younger looking contour, by lifting the breasts to a higher position.  A suitable candidate for surgery of this type may have encountered sagging breasts due to ageing, childbirth or as a result of weight loss and this condition can affect confidence greatly.

There are varying degrees of sagging to the breasts, which will be fully assessed during your consultation with the Cosmetic Surgeon, to establish whether you are suitable for surgery, also to determine which lifting technique is most appropriate for you.,  The clinical term for “sagging” is “ptosis” and there are 3 grades which are calculated according to the distance between the nipple and the breast crease.

For a mild case of sagging to the breasts, inserting an implant only may be an option (Breast Augmentation), however this will only be suitable to achieve a minor lift of approximately 2cm, plus during the ageing process the breasts will continue to droop.

The Mastopexy operation normally includes repositioning of the nipples and the Plastic Surgeon will make several incisions to the breasts, depending upon which type of method is used.  A combination of Breast Augmentation and Breast Reduction surgeries may be used to achieve the desired results, which will be dependent upon the initial appearance of the breasts.

After the surgery

There will be initial bruising and swelling after your surgery therefore your breasts will feel sore and tender to begin with.  As the residual swelling subsides, you should avoid any heavy exercise or activity for approximately 4-6 weeks.  You will also be required to wear a support or sports bra, which contains no wires for 6 weeks post surgery.

There will be scarring from the Mastopexy operation, how ever many women may feel that the enhanced confidence and femininity from the results of the procedure outweigh the scars, which should fade over time.
