Finally The Government Enforces Control Over UK Cosmetic SurgeryPublished on 2nd January 2014

A national register is due to be created after the cosmetic surgery scandal regarding the PIP breast implants, which caused misery to many women’s lives in the UK, plus affecting thousands of local women who had cosmetic breast surgery in Merseyside, Cheshire and Lancashire.

Qualifications and training for cosmetic surgery operations are to finally be regulated by the government, meaning that companies will be prohibited from using aggressive sales tactics such as offering cosmetic surgery procedures and breast implants as prizes.  “Buy one get one free” offers and pressure selling such as “book by the end of the week to receive money off” gimmicks will also be banned. The GMC (General Medical Council) are to formulate new qualifications and standards within the UK cosmetic surgery market, plus all practising surgeons in the UK will be ordered to have professional indemnity insurance, to provide assistance to patients with any problems arising from cosmetic surgery.

As from next month, the cosmetic surgery registry will be piloted in the UK and the legislation to implement a statutory register will be incorporated in the Queen’s Speech later in the year.

In December 2013  the boss of the PIP implant scandal was jailed for four years for aggravated fraud, after it was revealed that he covered up the substandard material used to produce his company’s implants, which went on to destroy the lives of so many women.

Liverpool Cosmetic Clinic are delighted that the cosmetic surgery register is to be implemented and fully support the decision of the government, in the quest to abolish cheap and cut price cosmetic surgery and to promote high quality, fully qualified Plastic Surgeons.
