Scar Revision Surgery & Scar Removal in Liverpool & WarringtonPublished on 8th September 2014

Reasons for Scar revision surgery

Scar revision surgery is normally performed under local anaesthetic, when the clinical opinion is that a scar can be improved because of particular circumstances or complications of healing in the first instance, or because the scar revision procedure is likely to be carried out in a better manner. This type of scar surgery is where the original scar is removed by a Plastic Surgeon, using one of several plastic surgery techniques and is repaired.

Post operative pain is usually minimal and any sutures are typically removed between 4-6 days post surgery from the facial area, and 7-10 days after scar revision surgery from other parts of the body.

Dissolving stitches are often used on the body and limbs to avoid stitch marks, which are much less likely to appear on the face as the stitches are removed earlier. Any newly formed scars will initially be red at first, and which then gradually fade over a period of approximately 6-24 months, depending on the location of the scar and the skin type of the patient.

Liverpool Cosmetic Clinic has local highly experienced Consultant Plastic Surgeons who are specially trained in scar revision surgery and treatments, both in their private practice and NHS. In addition, we also provide cosmetic skin camouflage for the long term management of scars.
